So in honor of John's 70th birthday, I knew we had to post his familiar face. Looking around I found 3 images that work well together. The first is a famous photo of him by Andy Warhol.

The second image is a nice portrait based on the photo

And the final perfect topper, is a well-done portrait of John at 70 years old (below). The artist, Patricia Mitchell,  had to have worked out his aging wrinkles on her own - as there is no way to copy a recent photo of him. (ashes to ashes and all...)

I just fell in love with Johnny all over again when I saw this fantastic poster art last year. The combination of Johnny's beautiful face, Tim Burton's art direction and the artist who worked on this poster (?) all combined to produce one of the best faces of 2010. A great collection of one of the artists that did some of the incredible concept art for the movie, Michael Kutsche, is here.

From an interview with Depp:
Q: This is the 7th film you’ve done with Tim Burton. When he came to you and asked you if you’d like to play the Mad Hatter, what was your reaction? Why did you want to play that character?
Johnny: To be honest, he could have said Alice and I would have said yes. I would have done whatever character Tim wanted. But, certainly, the fact that it was the Mad Hatter was a bonus because of the great challenge to try to find this guy and not just be a rubber ball that you heave into an empty room and watch it bounce all over the place. [I wanted] to find that part of the character but also [add] a little bit more of the history or gravity to the guy.
