Friday, July 29, 2011 0 comments

Just stumbled on this great painting-combo-mug shot, beautifully rendered and lit. I think it is concept art for a character named Dante in a video game - "Devil May Cry". Couldn't find the artist's name but if you know, send it my way!

New "Faces" Book by Glenn Barr

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 0 comments

Glenn Barr has just released a new book, titled Faces, with of course, paintings of his faces. They are at times- sultry, vacant, jaded, sexy and desperate... some kinda Pulp fiction with a vintage feel, depending on the mood. He just had a book signing at the opening of his show at La Luz de Jesus gallery in LA. Pick up a book and see the show!

Cliff Maynard's Roach Paper Faces

Wednesday, June 1, 2011 0 comments

Cliff Maynard creates wonderful art out of old "roaches' - the butts of marijuana cigarettes. Using the little pieces of paper as collage, he builds mosiac faces - layering the brown and tan to create the depth and image.
Beautifully apt for most his subject matters, they probably did (or do) their fair share of pot smoking. Recycled and vintage in their sepia appearance, they are beautifully done portraits.

Nick Gentry's Obsolete Portraits

Sunday, April 17, 2011 0 comments

From Switched -- "Central St. Martins grad Nick Gentry appropriates obsolete tech materials -- like floppy disks and VHS tape -- as the media for his paintings. As the world moves further away from these kinds of storage devices, Gentry suggests, we lose touch with the terrestrial. His work is nostalgic for a time when objects were less disposable, before "human existence [was] governed by billions of invisible data files," as he writes on his site."
He uses recycled materials such as computer disks, VHS tapes, floppy disks - incorporating them in the elements of his portraits, along with painting.

Andrew Myers Screws Them Over

Friday, March 11, 2011 0 comments

Andrew Myers makes portraits out of screw heads. Each screw is painted on the head to capture the colors and shading of his subject. The background appears to be phone book pages. The depth of the face is also controlled by how much the screw sticks out. Pretty cool, huh?

Daniel Kornrumpf's Stitched Face Art

Tuesday, February 8, 2011 0 comments

Daniel makes these portraits from embroidery, imagine a man who can paint and sew? Fantastic idea, full of texture, life and ambiance. The snapshot attitude of the image juxtaposes well with the tedious stitch work - fast and quick versus thought out and planned.
For more of his work and his website go here.
